What are the different of the abbrivations PIMF, LSZH, PIMF and AWG?
New light Optics Technology limited sells cables with both the PIMF and the LSZH norm. Cables can also be made from PVC. What does it mean?
Furthermore, what does AWG mean, and what is its significance?
PIMF
New light Optics Technology limited sells cables with PIMF Norm. It is an abbrivation for 'Pair In Metal Foil' and means that every pair is separately shielded with foil. It also called S/FTP.
LSZH
LSZH means 'Low Smoke Zero Halogen'. When the cable ignites or when the cable comes in contact with high temperatures, such as fire, a cable with LSZH will produce less smoke en there is no release of gas, due to the presence of thermoplastic.
PVC
PVC means 'Polyvinyl Chloride'. When the cable burns out or gets exposed to high temperatures, gas will release and due to the presence of halogen, it will cause more smoke.
The difference is physically very noticeable. Cables from PVC are soft. Cables made from LSZH are a bit sturdy.
Both cables made from LSZH and PVC are excellent to use.
AWG
AWG means 'American Wire Gauge'. It is an American code which is used for the measurement of the diameter of a wire. It is measured without isolation.
The higher the number, the smaller the diameter and the smaller the wire. Thinker wires are a therefore more suitable for long lenghts.
